  • Tina Lin

< Team Tina Lin Kinetic Control Tutor, MSP Tutor Senior Tutor Note English, Mandarin Note Taiwan Book mentoring with Tina > SUMMARY Tina believes ‘Movement Health’ is the ultimate answer for people to be able to live their lives independently, full of dignity and choice. She is passionate about helping medical and health practitioners cross language barriers to learn the Kinetic Control (KC) process and gain confidence in using this system for different types of patients. BIOGRAPHY Based on the fundamental concepts of KC and her unique training background in critical care, Tina predominantly works as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, integrating everything in her clinician’s toolbox with a wide range of clients, to optimize their quality of life by managing pain, limiting recurrence and enhancing function. On her way to becoming a multidisciplinary professional, she realized that only when people can restore health in their movement can they realize the full potential of intensive rehabilitation programs so as to reduce the musculoskeletal complications that can decrease their quality of life. In this journey, Tina found Kinetic Control as giving her the systemised framework to achieve this clinical goal. Completing her BSc in Physiotherapy from National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan, Tina is also a licensed practitioner of Pilates for rehabilitation. She first worked in a hospital well-known for providing premier cardiovascular surgery and critical care. During her work there, she realized that after open-heart surgery, many patients suffer from restriction of movement because of pain and scar tissue. This restriction not only makes them fail to complete their cardiac rehabilitation program but also causes musculoskeletal sequalae that subsequently influence their whole life, even though their heart structure has recovered. By implementing the systemised clinical framework that is KC, she could optimize her patients’ outcomes through a more holistic program. < Team Kari Niemi Kinetic Control Tutor Note English, Finnish Note Finland SUMMARY Kari completed the Kinetic Control Tutor Programme in 2010 and has taken the Kinetic Control process to Finnish Manual Therapists and Physiotherapists. Belonging to the Kinetic Control group gives him a great opportunity to develop his physiotherapy practice in musculoskeletal disorders in Finland. BIOGRAPHY “The choice is control and the control is choice. But do people have enough choices to move? Is there wrong or right way to move? Can those limited or lost movement choices be restored?” These are some of the questions which Kari has been asking and pondering since he started his career as a physiotherapist. Kari realized quite quickly that manual therapy by itself is not the long-term solution for people with pain and activity limitations. He has been undertaking lectures and tutoring on courses within therapeutic exercise with the Finnish Organisation of Manual Therapy (SOMTY ry). Kari has been responsible for the development of a number of therapeutic exercise courses for Orthopaedic Manual Therapy students in Finland. His message is also 'never give up'. In the Finnish language there is a good word to describe that, 'SISU'

  • Comera Movement Science | Kinetic Control | About

AN EDUCATION IN MOVEMENT The Kinetic Control framework aims to find and address the movement-related source of clinical presentations as opposed to only treating a patient’s symptoms. Our Kinetic Control (KC) education series is created for movement therapists, sports therapists, chiropractors, and clinicians alike . Throughout our lives, the way we move can be affected by many factors, including pain, injury, fatigue, and articular restrictions. Kinetic Control teaches a comprehensive and systematic model of clinical reasoning based on movement assessment and retraining to help manage clinical presentations and compromised quality of life. Kinetic Control education combines the insights gained from decades of clinical experience with an extensive research background, to help practitioners apply a rigorous movement management model with each patient. Because we are international and teach in over 30 countries, Kinetic Control courses can be taken face-to-face, online, or through a hybrid model. • Swekha Mehta

< Team Swekha Mehta Kinetic Control Tutor Note English Note India SUMMARY Swekha believes that RETRAINING MOVEMENT is the future of physiotherapy management and the key to treating a patient successfully and holistically. Kinetic Control has helped her integrate movement retraining as a part of her assessment and rehabilitation. BIOGRAPHY Through the concept of Kinetic Control she learned to correlate Uncontrolled Movement with patient’s signs and symptoms and develop various rehabilitation strategies to retrain the impairments. She strongly believes that it is important to correct movement faults and not just fix the symptoms so as to achieve complete function, prevent recurrences and improve quality of life. Swekha first came across the concept of Motor control while studying for her MSc. Her inquisitiveness to learn more about it made her attend Sarah’s first workshop held in India in 2011. She has never looked back. Swekha is now an accredited Kinetic Control Movement therapist and excited about being a Kinetic Control team member. She completed her MSc in Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal) from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Following her postgraduate program she was able to publish her dissertation in an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal. She currently enjoys working as a physiotherapist in the private sector. Her main area of expertise is treating patients with various musculoskeletal disorders from chronic back and neck pain to shoulder dysfunction. Swekha aspires to revolutionize Indian physiotherapy practice by sharing the importance of motor control and treating movement impairments among colleagues in India. Although this concept of Kinetic Control is relatively new in India it is gaining a lot of recognition. Being a part of the Kinetic Control team will help her take it further by training and tutoring more and more new therapists to learn this and incorporate it in their practice. Making movement matter.

  • Steve Sparks

< Team Steve Sparks Specialist Tutor Note English Note United Kingdom SUMMARY With 12 years of clinical experience working in elite football, Steve uses both Kinetic Control and The Performance Matrix (TPM) principles to assess and focus on individualised movement-based interventions for both acute and long-term athlete development. He believes an important component of injury prevention and management is about creating and maintaining physical robustness through co-ordinated synergistic muscle contraction with optimised movement variation in order to enhance performance. BIOGRAPHY Supporting Steve’s clinical skill set and experience he completed a Sport & Exercise Science degree from the University of Bath, further completing a degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Southampton and an MSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Keele. Although acknowledging the need to manage the individual with movement interventions as a whole, his experience in professional football has seen Steve develop a specialist interest in hip and groin movement and rehabilitation. Illustrating a particular focus on the structure and function of the adductor magnus, he presented a hugely well-received masterclass at Movement Performance Solutions’ first International Movement Conference in 2018, exploring the application of movement in the return to play story for elite athletes. Steve delivers both KC and TPM routes of education, allowing him to share his insight and expertise with a wide range of movement focussed professionals.
